the Veil
      Nebula

Even the Heavens dance with
veils -

The Veil Nebula - officially
numbered NGC 6960 by the
New General Catalog is the
remnant of a Super Nova. It is
roughly 1400 light years from
Earth, so this picture
represents what the nebula
looked like approximatly 1400
years ago.

This photo was taken October
21, 2006 by
Astro-photographer Dave
Trapani from the SkyRunner
Observatory in Bergen
County, NJ.

Exposure time: 9 Minutes

Considering the light pollution
from nearby New York City
(must be all the fabulous
glittering belly dance
costumes) the image still
manages to capture the true
brilliant color of the nebula.
